I chose to paint Queen Elizabeth I because she was a groundbreaking figure, arguably the most powerful woman of her era. During her reign, the English Empire was vast and expanding, and she may well have been the most influential person in the world at that time. As she aged, Elizabeth became known for her obsession with powdering her face white, a detail I endeavored to capture in my painting. Her legacy as a formidable and iconic ruler continues to inspire and fascinate.
