Georgia O’Keeffe was an extraordinary artist who preferred to be recognized simply as one of the best painters, without the qualifier of "female." In the 1930s, she honed her craft in New York City, but she is most celebrated for her evocative paintings of the American Southwest, inspired by her life in New Mexico.
This was the final piece I painted before the show went live. I'm proud of the color palette in this piece. I wanted to integrate the red sienna and turquoise of the southern state into not only the background but in the skin tones of the portrait as well.
